Some of the most common causes of shoulder pain are:

Frozen Shoulder: This condition also termed as adhesive capsulitis causes stiffness of the joints. Treatment methods include physical therapy and stretching.

The Rotator Cuff Tear: In this case, the tendons of the rotator cuff separate from the bone. In certain cases, the surgery will be the only solution.

Bursitis: The inflammation of the fluid filled sacs, the bursae, is termed as bursitis. The bursae surround the area of tendons, muscle tissues, as well as the skin and help to reduce the friction occurring due to the movement. The main cause of bursitis is the injury or damage to the bursae. The damage causes pain, swelling, redness, fever with chills etc.

The treatments include, rest, pain medications, icing the joints, surgery for removing the damaged bursae as well as physical therapy for relieving pain.

Sprain and Strain: They often results from the physical activity and can range from mild to severe depending up on the incident. The sprains mostly affect the ligaments and strain affects the muscles or tendons. The sprain occurs while joint become twisted when bearing the weight. Strain is caused when too much of force is applied on a muscle.

One needs to follow the RICE treatment for these types of injuries. (Rest, Ice, Compression as well as Elevation) as well as physical therapy. For severe injuries the treatment includes wrapping the joint as well as wearing a soft cast.
