I’ve always been interested in alternative medicine and wellness. I first became acquainted with acupuncture in my early twenties. I was dealing with sports injuries and went to see a Chinese medicine practitioner for help. The results were amazing; I could not believe how effective acupuncture was. But what got me hooked was when I started to notice other things- my sleep improved, my energy was better, and I started feeling better as a whole. It was in learning about Chinese medicine and the many ways in which it can help us heal and then keep us healthy, that I knew I wanted to be in this field not only for my own wellbeing, but to be able to share with others as well.
Expert in Acupuncture since 2006
In 2006, I graduated from the 4-year Practitioner of Acupuncture and Traditional Chinese Medicine program at the Academy of Classical Oriental Sciences in Nelson, BC. My schooling included in-depth training in acupuncture, Chinese herbal medicine, and principles of disease and diagnosis in the Chinese medical system. The prestigious school is highly reputed in North America and I was fortunate to have for guidance many excellent teachers trained in China.
Owner of Okanagan Acupuncture since 2008
In 2008, I became the owner and Head Acupuncturist of the Okanagan Acupuncture Centre. My practice in Kelowna has given me a wealth of experience working with chronic pain and musculoskeletal conditions, as well as complex health conditions that Western medicine finds difficult to treat. Because of the widespread prevalence of pain conditions, I have pursued additional specialized training in sports injuries and musculoskeletal conditions. I use a combination of trigger points (also called IMS or motor points) and Traditional Chinese acupuncture techniques to achieve more lasting relief of chronic and acute pain.
Treating Pain and More with a Whole Body Approach
In Chinese medicine, health is a sum of your genetic constitution, your health history, and how you interact with the world around you. It includes what and how you eat, your work, your stress levels, your relationships, your age, your mental health, and where you live. It means adapting our lifestyle as we grow older to honour our aging bodies and changing health needs. It means respecting the environment we live in and adapting our diet and behavior to the seasons. It means having an awareness of our mental and emotional health and how they impact our overall wellbeing and the development of disease.
Chinese medicine is an amazing and powerful system of health and healing. A traditional Chinese acupuncturist is more like a family doctor than a physical therapist. Our training and expertise in diagnosing and treating internal health problems ranges from digestive disorders to insomnia, migraines, menopausal symptoms, and chronic health conditions; from pediatrics to geriatrics. Many of my patients are new to acupuncture, and you will find that acupuncture can be both gentle and relaxing.
Your Partner in Health
Even after many years of practice and over 30,000 treatments worth of experience, I continue to be awed by Chinese medicine’s ability to heal. I look forward to sharing these healing tools with you, so that you too can prosper in health.
